Directions: The Canal Centre at Maunsel Lock is at North Newton. From Bridgwater, leave the M5 at junction 24 and follow the signs on the A38 in North Petherton.

Access: There are car parks at Lower Maunsel Lock at Banklands, North Newton (TA7 0DH) and also at Creech St Michael (TA3 5RZ). Standards Lock, south of Bridgwater (TA7 0AR), is only accessible via the towpath, but is well worth the visit. There is disability access from Maunsel Lock Canal Centre.
Herne Hill
Once part of the Donyatt Deer Park and the Neroche Forest, this 25-acre site overlooking Ilminster has been re-planted over the past 20 years.
Directions: A good place to start the walk to Herne Hill is at the new car park being constructed in Shudrick Lane, just off Ditton Street.
Facilities: Toilets are near the Shudrick Lane car park beside Tesco.
Access: There is one hill to climb to the picnic area on the top of the hill but the paths are very well maintained and are accessible at all times of year.
